주체사상 시기에 북한에서는 서정시 못지않게 서사시가 많이 창작되었고, 서사시의 문학사적 위상 또한 높다. 과거의 역사적 순간과 결부된 형식인 서사시 장르가 오늘날 북한사회에서는 왜 부활하고 있는가? 이에 대한 해답을 찾기 위해서는 북한 서사시 작품과 북한 사회구조의 상관관계를 분석해 보아야 한다. 이에, 필자는 주체사상 시기 북한의 서사시 가운데 ‘사회주의건설주제작품’을 대상으로 하여, 이들 서사시가 북한의 현실을 어떻게 반영하고 있는지를 밝혀보았다. 그 결과 주체사상 시기에 창작된 북한의 ‘사회주의건설주제’ 서사시의 특징으로서 다음과 같은 내용을 도출하였다. 첫째, 존재하는 현실을 반영하는 것이 아니라 ‘원하는 현실’을 반영한다. 현재의 재구성을 통하여 북한사회가 안고 있는 현실적인 문제점을 배경화하는 것이다. 둘째, ‘김일성 수령’이 세계를 지배하는 신성(神性) 즉 선의 역할을 떠맡고 있다. 위대한 수령과 위대한 당이 있어 조국은 위대하다는 것이며, 이를 증명해주는 구체적인 예시가 북한 ‘사회주의건설주제’의 서사시이다. 셋째, 모순과 갈등을 넘어서서 가치를 성취하는 결말구조를 보인다. 북한사회는 스스로가 완결된 사회임을 기정 사실화하고, 그 사회의 내적 산물인 모순과 갈등을 결코 허용하지 않는다. 넷째, 서사적 주체가 현실의 재구성을 통하여 객관적인 삶을 지배하려는 주관적인 행위를 보이는데, 이는 총체성이 결여된 서사시 형식의 특징적 요소이다.

In North Korea during Juche Ideology, many epic poems as much as lyric poetry were created, and the status of literature history of epic poetry is also high. Why is the epic poetry, connected with the historical moments in the past, reviving in North Korean society? To find the solution of this, the correlation between North Korean epic poems and North Korean social structure. For this, with the subject of "Work of Construction Theme of Socialism" among North Korean epic poems during Juche Ideology, the author evaluated how these poems reflect the reality of North Korea. As a result, being characteristics of North Korean epic poems of 'construction theme of socialism' created during Juche Ideology, the following contents were extracted. First, poems reflect not only the existing reality but also the "willing reality." Through the reconstitution of reality, poems set the background of realistic problems in current North Korean society. Second, it holds sanctitude, or the role of goodness, by "Chief Kim, Il Sung" conquering the world. The concrete examples to insist the proof of great chief and great party to behold the great country are North Korean epic poems of 'construction theme of socialism'. Third, they show conclusive structure to achieve the value by overcoming contradiction and conflict. North Korean society accomplish the fact that it is self-completed society, and the contradiction and conflict, or social inner by-products, are not acceptable. Fourth, the main characters in description show subjective attitudes to govern the objective life through reconstitution of reality, and this is one of characteristics of epim poems without totality.
