본 연구의 목적은 영남 지역주의 투표행태의 변화를 연구하는 것이다. 특히 기존 연구들이 영남지역을 하나의 단위로 분류하거나, 영남지역만을 분석하더라도 일부의 선거만을 분석한 한계를 극복하고자 하였다. 그래서 본 연구는 민주화 이후 대통령 선거와 국회의원 선거를 모두 분석하여 최근 영남지역 선거에서의 지역주의의 완화가 일시적 현상인지, 아니면 지속적인 추세를 반영한 결과인지 확인하고자 하였다. 본 연구의 분석결과 대구·경북은 여전히 지역주의 영향력이 나타났고 부산·울산·경남은 그 영향력이 옅어지고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 둘째, 민주화 이후 모든 선거를 살펴보지는 못하였으나 2014, 2018년 지방선거에서도 역시 영남 지역주의 변화를 확인할 수 있었다. 이 연구는 대구·경북과 부산·울산·경남의 지역주의를 별개로 해석해야 한다는 점에 주목해 이와 관련된 후속적인 연구를 촉발하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

The purpose of this study is to study the change of voting behaviors in Yeongnam region. Therefore, this study analyzes both the presidential elections and the parliamentary elections after the democratization and confirms whether the regionalism mitigation in the Yeongnam region elections is a temporary phenomenon or a result reflecting the continuous trend. As a result of this study, Daegu and Gyeongbuk were still influenced by regionalism, and Busan, Ulsan and Gyeongnam had weakened their influence. Secondly, after the democratization, we could not look at all the elections, but we could confirm the changes in Yeongnam region in 2014 and 2018 provincial elections. This study is significant in that it should interpret the regionalism of Daegu, Gyeongbuk, Busan, Ulsan and Gyeongnam separately and triggered further research related to this.
