이 연구는 한국인 영어학습자들이 제 2 언어운율발화시 제 2 언어 경험과 수준에 따라 음높이강세, 구절강세, 억양 경계선을 다양하게 발화하는 점을 보고자한다. 43명의 한국인 대학생들은 Huang and Jun (2011)의 읽기 과제를 적용한 단락읽기를 하고 영어습득을 시작한 나이, 영어 학습경험, 토익점수를 바탕으로 자기보고서를 작성하였다. 다중회기분석을 이용하여 두 가지 학습자 변이요인인 언어경험 및 수준과 Praat 음성분석을 통해 얻은 세 가지 운율자질인 음의 고저강세, 구절강세, 억양경계선의 상관관계를 분석하였다. 분석결과, 제 2 언어 능숙도는 음의 고저강세와 연관성이 있는 반면 제 2 언어경험은 구절 강세와 억양 경계선과 더 상관성이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이 결과로 하여금 본 연구는 영어학습자들에게 영어운율을 가르치는 데 있어서 필요한 교육적 방향을 제시하고자 한다.

This study investigates how production of second language (L2) prosody (i.e., pitch accent, phrase accent, and intonational boundary) are varied as functions of L2 experience and proficiency by Koreans learning English. In this study, 43 Korean college students were required to read aloud a paragraph in English (adapted from Huang and Jun, 2011) in an individual reading task. In addition to that, the participants were required to complete a report that showed the participants' English experience, i.e., the age of acquisition, the length of English learning experience, and TOEIC scores. For factors affecting language learning experience and proficiency, multiple regression analysis were performed to examine the correlation between the two factors, i.e., L2 experience and proficiency and three prosodic features which are pitch accent, phrase accent, and intonational boundary, which were analyzed in Praat speech analysis software. Results indicated that L2 proficiency is more associated with pitch accents whereas L2 experience is more correlated with phrase accents and intonational boundary. The results are discussed in terms of L2 prosody for pedagogical implications.
