본 연구는 체계적 문헌고찰을 활용하여 국내·외의 번아웃 증후군을 주제로 한 관련 선행연구들의 조작적 정의를 분석하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 국내·외 연구논문 데이터베이스들을 이용하여 광범위한 참고문헌의 수집이 이루어졌으며 수집된 참고문헌은 자체적으로 준비된 3단계의 선정과정을 통해 최종적으로 129편의 연구물들이 본 연구를 위한 분석대상으로 선정되었다. 이에 따른 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 번아웃 증후군 관련 국내 선행연구는 주로 경영/경제학, 관광학, 교육학 관련 학술지에서 게재되는 반면, 국외 선행연구는 대부분 의약학 관련 학술지에서 게재되고 있다. 둘째, 번아웃 증후군의 직업군은 전문직과 서비스업 제공 근로자로 나타났다. 셋째, 번아웃 증후군의 원인은 시간적 원인과 부정적 심리상태, 부정적 직무상황으로 나타났다. 또한 번아웃 증후군의 결과는 정신적·심리적·조직적 ·신체적 탈진 또는 이들이 결합된 형태의 탈진으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 제한점에 따른 후속 연구 추진방향은 다음과 같다. 번아웃 증후군은 현대사회 구성원 전체로 확산되고 있는 추세이므로 생애주기별 조작적 정의 연구가 필요하다. 또한 번아웃 증후군은 각국의 환경 및 문화 차이에 의한 원인이 형성될 가능성이 높으므로 문화적 현상을 고려한 한국형 번아웃 증후군에 대한 조작적 정의가 필요하다.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the operational definitions of burnout syndrome using a systematic literature review on previous studies in Korea and other countries. For this purpose, a wide range of references were collected using databases for domestic and foreign research papers. Among the collected references, a total of 129 papers were finally selected to be analyzed through our own 3-step selection process prepared in this study. The results are as follows. First, domestic previous studies on burnout syndrome were mainly published in journals related to management/economics, tourism or education. On the other hand, previous foreign studies on burnout syndrome were mainly published in journals related to medicine or pharmacology. Second, in terms of occupation, those who suffered from burnout syndrome were professional and service workers. Third, burnout syndrome was caused by temporal cause, negative psychological state, and negative job situation. In addition, the outcome of burnout syndrome was mental, psychological, systematic, physical burnout or combined burnout. As this study has some limitations, the directions for the follow-up studies are as follows: As burnout syndrome tends to be spread out to all members of modern society, it is necessary to study operational definition by life cycles. In addition, burnout syndrome is highly likely to be caused by environmental and cultural differences in each country. Therefore, it is required to study the Korean version operational definition of burnout syndrome in consideration of Korean cultural phenomena.
