본 연구에서는 2015년 노벨문학상 수상자인 알렉시예비치의 창작을 국가의 구성원으로서 개인이 체험한 불가항력적인 비극과 고통에 대한 고백의 서사로서, 그들이 상처를 극복하고 치유해 나가는 과정으로서 살펴보았다. 작가는 문학과 저널리즘의 경계에 있는 다큐멘터리 소설이라는 독창적인 장르를 고안하고, 전쟁이나 원전폭발, 소련의 붕괴와 같은 역사적 사건들을 개인이 어떻게 극복하는지를 보여준다. 이때 인터뷰를 통한 상처의 고백은 치유 행위의 시작으로, 이를 청취하고 텍스트로 옮기는 작가의 글쓰기는 직접적인 치유 행위로 볼 수 있다. 작가는 함께 울고 웃으며 상처 입은 자들의 목소리에 귀를 기울인다. 작가는 더 이상 창조자가 아니라, 역사의 증인이자 연대기 기록자, 공감하는 자의 역할을 하게 된다. 이와 같은 공감의 글쓰기는 국가와 거대권력에게 상처 입은 개인을 치유하려는 작가의 적극적인 시도이기도 하다. 더 나아가 알렉시예비치의 작품을 읽는 것은 동시대 유사한 상처를 지닌 독자들에게도 위로와 공감의 행위가 될 수 있다. 이와 같은 관점에서 알렉시예비치 창작에 대한 분석은 다큐멘터리 소설의 장르적 특수성을 이해하기 위해서도, 그리고 반(反)러시아, 반(反)벨로루시적인 입장을 보여주는 작가의 정치적 입장을 설명하기 위해서도 중요한 의미를 지닌다.

This study attempts to interpret the creative work of Svetlana Alexievich, winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2015, as an epic of confession of the irresistible tragedy and agony that the writer has been through as an individual citizen of a country. It also argues that Alexievich`s writing, and her work, Voice of Utopia, in particular, is a healing process for treating the trauma of the writer herself, as well as for readers who have had the same historical experience. Creating a unique genre of “documentary novel,” Alexievich shows how individuals of a society overcome tragic historical events, such war, the explosion of nuclear plants, and the collapse of the Soviet Union. In the writer`s work, especially, interviews are the beginning of the healing process. While listening to and transcribing the confessions made in the interviews, she finds that her writing immediately becomes part of the healing. Weeping and laughing together with the confessors, Alexievich pays close attention to their wounds. Feeling sympathy, she is not a creator of a story anymore, and instead begins to work as a witness of history or a recorder of chronicles. This can also be taken as the writer`s active trial to deal with her personal trauma caused by the uncontrollable power of a huge authority, her country. Moreover, reading Alexievich`s work gives comfort and healing to the readers, who have also been through tragedy and pain. From this perspective, analyzing Alexievich`s works has significant implications not only for comprehending the generic characteristics of documentary novels, but also explaining the political position of anti-Russian and anti-Belarusian writers.
