이 글은 여상현의 일제 강점기 문학 활동을 대상으로, 그간의 논의에서 충분히 해명되지 못한 부분을 중점적으로 다루었다. 2장에서는 『시인부락(詩人部落)』 동인 활동을 전후한 여상현의 창작 활동 내용을 1차 자료에 근거하여 보다 정밀하게 재구성하고자 하였다. 이를 통해서 등단 시점이 1930년대 초반이라는 사실, 지금까지 알려진 것보다 그의 창작 활동이 풍성했다는 점을 확인할 수 있었다. 3장에서는 일제 강점기와 해방기의 시세계가 비교적 일관된 문학 정신 하에서 형성되었다는 점을 밝히고자 하였다. 이를 위해 고리키의 작품과 여상현의 작품을 민중지향성이라는 측면에서 비교했다. 4장에서는 그동안 친일 논란이 제기되어 온 일제 강점 말기의 작품을 대상으로 정밀한 분석을 통해서 이들 작품이 그의 문학 정신을 순수의 옷으로 위장한 산물이라는 사실을 주장하였다. 5장에서는 여상현의 민중지향성이 일제 강점 말기의 일시적인 골곡에도 불구하고 해방기까지 지속되고 있는 양상을 「복로방」을 중심으로 검토하였다. 이 글에서는 기존 논의에서 제기된 문제들을 중점적으로 논의하였는데, 이 글이 이후 전개될 여상현 시 연구에 일정한 시사점을 제공할 수 있으리라 생각한다.

In this study, I treated parts of Yeo Sang-hyeon`s literary activities which were not fully explained in priority. In chapter 2, I tried to re-construct contents of writing activity of his closely upon the other Siinburak coterie through first data. Through this work, we can identify the fact that the time when he went on the platform at early in the 1930s and that he did plentiful literary activities. In chapter 3, I tried to clarify the fact that his poetical world of Japanese colonial era and that of Liberation era was formed under relatively consistent literary mind. In this process, we can see that he sympathized with Maksim Gor`kii`s people directivity. In chapter 4, targeting the two works called pro-Japanese which were embroiled in controversy, I argued that these were fruits of camouflage through clothes of lyricism, not pro-Japanese. In chapter 5, I tried to explain that Gor`kii`s people directivity influenced Yeo Sang-hyeon`s writing activity until Liberation era through comparison of Gor`kii`s work and his. In this study, I discussed the problems raised by existing debate preponderantly. Therefore, I think that it can give coming studies on Yeo Sang-hyeon`s poetry some implications.
