이 논문은 『일월』의 서사구성에 주요 요소로 배치된 다양한 환상적 장치들에 대해 정신분석학적 관점을 취함으로써 그것들이 자기구원의 맥락에서 어떠한 의미를 형성하는지 살펴보았다. 작중인물들이 지니는 환상성은 크게 세 가지 양상들로 표출되고 있는데, 첫째, 본돌 영감과 홍씨가 선택한 방식은 광기의 표출과 폐쇄적 관계의 구축이다. 그러나 그들이 취한 현실세계와의 단절은 궁극적으로 현실세계의 기표로 존재하기 위한 관계성을 드러내고 있다. 둘째, 상진 영감이 취한 환상성은 이중욕망의 모순과 상징적 관계의 좌절을 보여준다. 그것은 그의 이중욕망, 즉 신분상승을 갈망하는 전근대적 욕망과 매판자본주의의 수혜자로서 자본을 통한 자기 권력 확장이라는 근대적 욕망이 필연적으로 내적 모순을 수반할 수밖에 없음을 의미한다. 셋째, 인철은 환상적 장치를 통해 관찰자적 자기 확인과 주체적 관계의 탐색 과정을 드러내고 있다. 그는 앞의 인물들이 선택한 방식들의 공통적 한계를 뚜렷하게 인식하고 타자와의 적극적 관계형성을 통한 주체성 정립의 가능성을 모색한다. 결국 『일월』의 인물들을 통해 제시된 여러 환상적 양상들에 대한 성찰은 인간구원의 문제를 다양한 관점에서 탐색하고자 하는 작가의 욕망과 맞닿아 있음을 알 수 있다.
This paper takes a psychoanalytic viewpoint on the diverse fantastic devices placed as main elements of the narrative description of 『Ilwol』, and examines what meanings they form in the context of salvation of oneself. The fantasy the characters have are expressed in three major aspects: first, the old Bondol and Mrs. Hong choose the way of displaying madness and establishment of exclusive relationships. Yet, the severance from the real world they have chosen ultimately reveals that the relationship exists as a signifier of the real world. Second, the fantasy taken by the old Sang-jin shows the contradiction between double desires and the frustration of the symbolic relationship. That`s because his double desires, that is, his pre-modern desire for a higher social status and his modern desire for the extension of power through capital as a beneficiary of comprador capitalism, inevitably involve internal contradiction. Third, In-cheol reveals the process of confirmation of himself as an observer and exploration of an independent relationship through a fantastic device. He clearly recognizes the common limitation in the ways chosen by the characters above, and explores the possibility to develop independence by actively forming a relationship with others. It eventually shows that the reflection on the different fantastic aspects presented through the characters in『Ilwol』are related to the writer`s desire to examine the matter of salvation of humans from various viewpoints.
