본고는 논증 텍스트에 사용된 ‘것 같다’와 같은 양태 표지를 교정적 관점에서 다루는 첨삭 지도상의 관행에 문제를 제기하고, 문법교육적 관점에서 학습자가 선택한 양태 표지의 표현 의도를 파악하여 지도하는 해석적 방식을 제안하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 고등학생이 작성한 논술문을 대상으로‘것 같다’의 사용 양상과 표현 의도를 체계기능 언어학적 관점에서 분석하였다. 그 결과 학습자들이 비관여적 어조를 통해 자신의 주장을 객관화하여 드러내는 논증 텍스트의 장르성을 적절히 인식하지 못하고 있다는 점과 호명된독자를 수신된 독자로 착각하여 논리적 필자로서의 정체성을 확립하지 못하고 있다는 점을 확인하였다. 이러한 사례 분석을 통해, ‘것 같다’와 같은 양태표지의 의미기능을 장르성과 관련지어 인식할 수 있도록 교육 내용을 재구성해야 한다는 점을 논의하고, 국어과에서 활용 가능한 문법적 자원을 구체화하기 위한 문법교육적 연구가 지속적으로 이루어져야 한다는 점을 제언하였다.

The research raises concerns about instructional practices in which proofreading on modality markers such as ‘Geos Gatda(것 같다)’ is made under corrective perspectives, and aims at suggesting analytic and interpretative methods to perceive their expressing intent. For the purpose, the exemplars and intention of ‘Geos Gatda’ have been analyzed in view of systemic functional linguistics. As a result, it is revealed that learners do not have appropriate awareness in generic characteristics of argumentative texts which objectify writers’ statements through impersonal voice. It also turns out that learners have difficulties in defining writer identity as a logical subject confusing Audience Invoked with Audience Addressed. Depending on the cases, suggestions can be made that educational contents for grammar ought to be reconstructed so that learners can recognize the functions of modality markers such as ‘Geos Gatda’ in relation to generic characteristics. Finally it can be proposed that more educational researches should be proceeded so as to structuralize grammatical resources which are pedagogically available.
