Carbon-coated TiO2 photocatalyst samples were prepared from the mixture of commercial TiO2 (P-25, Degussa, Germany) powders and poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) with different mass ratios. The sample was heated at a various temperatures in a inert gas atmosphere. The samples was characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), transmission electron microscope (TEM), and BET analyses. The photocatalytic degradation of MB was investigated in a batch photocatalytic reactor, using TiO2 as a photocatalyst and a UV lamp as a light source. The effects of various parameters such as, temperature condition, photocatalysis dosage and initial pH on the MB degradation rate of TiO2 photocatatysis were examined. In the presence of both UV light illumination and TiO2 catalyst, MB was more effectively degraded than with either UV or TiO2 alone. Interestingly, we found that the photocatalytic degradation of MB using the carbon-coated TiO2 samples was not effected by the temperature comparing P-25. It was also observed that the photocatalytic activities of carbon-coated samples were similar to P-25 for the parameters such as, the photocatalysis dosage and the initial pH of the solution on the MB degradation rate of photocatalysts.
