성해응(1760~1839)은 靑城성대중(1732~1809)의 아들로 서얼 출신이지만, 과거에 급제하여 정조와 순조 대에 관직을 지냈다. 부친과 함께 정조의 총애를 받으면서 규장각에서 검서관으로 활약하기도 했다. 그래서 1825년 『존주휘편(尊周彙編)』을 편수하였다. 말년에 거질의 『硏經齋全集』(1776)을 남겼다. 188권 102책으로 구성된 『연경재전집』에 수록된 <稻벼> 계열 곡물명의 어휘사를 추적하기 위해 이 글에서는 17편의 문헌자료를 살폈다. 15세기의 『농사직설』, 『금양잡록』, 16세기의 『훈몽자회』, 『신증유합』, 17세기의 『동의보감』, 『색경』, 『역어유해』, 18세기의 『동문유해』, 『몽어유해』, 『방언유석』, 『한청문감』, 『왜어유해』, 『한어초』, 『재물보』 그리고 19세기의 『물명고』, 『임원십육지』, 『광재물보』가 그것이다. 이들 문헌은 세기를 달리하면서 일정한 계보를 이루고 있다. 가령 『금양잡록』, 『연경재전집』, 『임원십육지』는 수록 어휘의 비교를 통해 동일 계통의 어휘 자료집임을 알 수 있다. 『한청문감』과 『한어초』도 마찬가지고 『재물보』과 『광재물보』도 마찬가지다. 『연경재전집』의 외집 草木類穀品에 도합 102개의 곡물명이 수록되어 있다. 이들 곡물명은 모두 8개의 곡물 상위어 아래에 제시되어 있어 특기할 만하다. 그 상위어는 <稻벼>, <黍기장>, <稷피>, <粟조>, <大豆?>, <小豆?>, <麥보리>, <荏?> 순으로 나타난다. 하위어는 <稻벼> 계열 40개, <黍기장> 계열 7개, <稷피> 계열 5개, <粟조> 계열 15개, <大豆?> 계열 8개, <小豆?> 계열 10개, <麥보리> 계열 7개, <荏?> 계열 2개를 수록하고 있으며, 주 곡물인 <稻벼> 계열이 40개로 가장 많이 등재되어 있다. 이 글에서는 <稻벼> 계열의 어휘 40개를 메벼 계열과 찰벼 계열로 나누어 그 어휘사를 추적했다.

Seong Hae-eung (1760~1839) that was born as the son of Seong Dae-Jung (1732~1809) was the child of a concubine. But he worked in various fields of government services in the period that the JeongJo that was the King of the Joseon dynasty governed in. Becourse of the favor of JeongJo, for a While he worked with his father in Gyujang-gak that was Academy House in Jeoseon dynasty. Therefore he made Jonjuhuipyeon『尊周彙編』 in 1825. Seong Hae-eung who entered the twilight of his life bequeathed us the great book Yeon-gyeongje jeonjip(『硏經齋全集』) in 1776. In order to pursuit the etymology of "rice lexicon" in Yeon-gyeongje jeonjip(『硏經齋全集』), I looked all around carefully at the bibliographic data of 17 books. First I looked at 『農事直說』 and 『衿陽雜錄』 in the 15 century. Second I looked at 『訓蒙字會』 and 『新增類合』 in the 16 century. Third I looked at 『東醫寶鑑』, 『穡經』 and 『譯語類解』 in the 17 century. Fourth I looked at 『同文類解』, 『蒙語類解』, 『方言類釋』, 『漢淸文鑑』, 『倭語類解』, 『漢語抄』 and 『才物譜』 in the 18 century. Finally I looked at 『物名攷』, 『林園十六志』, 『廣才物譜』 in the 19 century. The 102 numbers of "rice lexicon" were contained in the plants and trees class of Yeon-gyeongje jeonjip. They belonged to the 8 numbers hyperonyms. Their hyperonyms were <稻rice>, <黍proso>, <稷pea>, <粟millet>, <大豆bean>, <小豆adzuki beans>, <麥barley>, <荏sesame> ordering. Among these the hyponyms of <稻rice> contained in the 40 numbers of the rice lexicon. In this papers I divided into two categores : ``nonglutinous rice`` type and ``glutinous rice`` type. And I pursuited the etymology of rice lexicon.
